When I first read this, I was like wooh-hooh for the t-moble people! The Owasys 22c is now available for $199, when you sign a one year contract with t-moble, and purchase it all through screenless phones. Now, that's pretty flippin cool! Only one year and only $199 for a fully accessible phone. The drawback and confusion? The Owasys is a duel band phone, and it looks like t-moble has a lot of roming coverage on the 850 network. So, if I'm understanding this correctly, a duel band phone, 900/1900, won't work on the 850 portion of the network? Now, that sucks! I wish Cingular or Suncom would offer a deal for this phone. Gall, $199 down from $495. Pretty darn good!
Hold on, the Cingular NOkia 6620 is either $199 or $299 (can't remember,) with a mail in rebate and Talks is $199 but the money you pay for it is refunded to you through service credits. Good phone, not perfect but pretty decent. I've used it for a while, no service problems or roaming charges on Cingular and I've been in a lot of states.
If I'm not mistaken, you pay the $400 up front, and they only rebate you via your phone bill. No check or anything. Is that phone still abailable? Phonescoop says it is discontinued. Infact, it seems a lot of those simbien 60 80 phones are no longer available via Cingular or Suncom. Do y'all no anything further about that?
Good evening all. Here is the information on the current offering regarding Cingular accessible phones according to the cingular center for disabillities(866/241-6568).
the 6620 is still available however supplies are running low. They are presently in nagociations to support the 6680 however the outcome has not been determined. The 6620 cells for 199.99 and the software also sells for 199.99. After a 30 day period the price of the softwaer is cretited back to the subscribers account.
As far as the TMobile offering, I would check if they are offering a version of the oasis phone that supports 850mhz. According to TMobile, they offer roaming on Cingular wehn there service is not accessible meaning when you are in an area not covered by them. To me this is sketchy because my question would be are they saying that if there is no service in the area they will permit roaming on cingular or if the signal is week or can't penetrate a building will the phone switch to cingular. I was not able to get a clear answer on this. So far I have not had any coverage problems with cingular and it just seems to work everyware.
Yeah, on goes my debate: cingular verizonor . Not sure what I want to do. Verizon definitely looks to have the largest coverage. Though cingular seems to have more accessibility features. Hmmm
just another update on the owasys 22c phone, now capital accessibility are selling the phone with a 2-year service contract with T-mobile for 199 dollars and 95 cents. You can still get the one year service contract, but the price is now 249.95. this is all effective today.
In Minnesota at least the owasys phone is able to rome on other networks so I would assume that it would be the case elseware. The phone is good if you want more of a basic type phone and excelent sound quality but if you want more advanced features then the nokia phones would be a better choice.
I would definitely go with the Cingular one. I've heard a lot of complaints about Verizon and I had bad experience both with Sprint and Altel but I've been with Cingular 3 years now and no problems. The 6620 is not perfect, granted, and I hope they can work out a way to support the 6680 but the 6620 is equivalent or better than the screenless phones. Mine broke down and Cingular sent me a brand new one, no questions asked, I was impressed with that customer service I must say.
Best of luck finding the right plan. Cingular works for me because I travel a lot so any plan I want would be a national one, SunCom or T-Mobile might possibly be better if you are more regional.
Cheers

Wildebrew, you say you travel a lot? All over the US? Including small towns and such? This is my main concern. Verizon has been great for when we take cross country road trips. The one posative draw twards Syngular is that I could use it in the UK, of course buying one of those prepaid sim cards. Lol, so far I haven't made any move. My new every 2 for verizon has passed and I'm just kind of... Dunno, not making a decision. My contract ends in July.
Hmm, I've mostly visited big cities admittedly but I do not remember any time where my phone was not detecting a network (that's South Carolina mostly but also some road trips in Michigan and Ontario, Canada), also I had connection almost to Yosimiti park in California and better connection than my friends with Verizon there (hehe, no, I"m not paid to advertize for Cingular, not at all).
I'm not sure you can use a prepaid sym card in the UK for phone calls, reason being that Cingular locks their phone. You can use Cingular services there and it's ok for quick text messages or phone calls but apart from that they charge you brutally for such services, I think $1.29/minut, possibly more, depending where you're calling. And you also have to call them beforehand and have international travelling enabled on your account.
I think the cell phone issue is true for most companies, i.e. tat they lock their phones, you'd have to buy an unlocked one and they'll probably run you closer to $500.
Best of luck though.

Actually, these days unlocked phones can be had a bit cheeper then $500. I am looking in to the Motorola Pebl which is currently carried by TMobile. I can find it on EBay for about $240 unlocked. EBay is a great place to get phones. Most of my phones are from there although I did buy a motorola 551 from motorola. As it was pointed out Cingular is great for traveling all over the world. Enjoy and have fun.
www.myworldphone.com is a good place to buy new unlocked phones as well.
